Do you rest? I mean, do you take a day of rest every week? That’s when you take a day off from work, not just from your job, but from any kind of work. Or do you feel that you have way too much to do that you can’t afford to take a full day of rest?
I know taking a full day of rest is particularly difficult if you’re an entrepreneur, self-employed, work remotely, or you’re working in a startup. But if you don’t schedule time to rest for yourself, you’ll never take a break. Ignoring your need for rest only leaves you exhausted and overwhelmed.
Whatever your work situation is, which day of the week you take your rest doesn’t matter. It’s just important that you do take one! Just like you schedule everything else during your week, you need to schedule your rest day. Otherwise, you’ll get burned out.
So, what should you do on a day of rest?
1. Rest your body
During the French Revolution, government leaders abolished Sunday as a day of rest but later restored it because the health of the nation had collapsed. Your health depends on it too! So, make it a priority.
2. Recharge your emotions
You can do this through quietness, solitude, recreation that rejuvenates you, or spending time with people.
If you start taking a day of rest every week, you’ll actually end up with more time (and energy!) As a proverb says, “A relaxed attitude lengthens a man’s life”.
So, make plans to take a weekly day of rest. Don’t wait until your annual vacation!
To help you make this into a reality, consider the following 3 questions:
- How much time are you spending weekly on different activities (work, sleep, meals, driving, physical activities, family time, hobbies, and so on)?
- What is getting too much or too little of your time?
- Where in your schedule can you make rest a priority?
I’d love to hear your experience. Do you take a weekly day of rest regularly? Leave me a reply below and let me know your thoughts.
